Libertarian Presidential Ticket Canvasses Midwest, Southeast; Rallies Supporters

Libertarian Presidential Ticket Canvasses Midwest, Southeast; Rallies Supporters

GREENVILLE, S.C.; August 21, 2020—  The Libertarian presidential ticket will be canvassing in different parts of the country this weekend. Dr. Jo Jorgensen, the candidate for president, will hold events in Atlanta, Ga. and Huntsville, Ala., where the ticket just achieved ballot access on Wednesday, putting them well on track to appear on all 50 states’ (plus D.C.’s) ballots.

Meanwhile, her vice-presidential running mate, Jeremy “Spike” Cohen, will rally supporters in Des Moines, Ia. and Lincoln, Neb., as his campaign bus tour continues to head west. They will share their top platform planks, which include drastically slashing federal spending, ending the war on drugs, and allowing for a truly free market in health care, with competition and the resultant lower prices.

“As President, I will use my constitutional authority to block any new borrowing. I will veto any spending bill that would lead to a deficit, and veto any debt-ceiling increase,” said Dr. Jorgensen. “I will give every cabinet secretary a specific spending reduction target and hold them accountable.  There is no excuse for sticking our children and grandchildren with the bill for bipartisan bloated budgets.” On Sunday, Tom Hopf, a Libertarian candidate for Huntsville City Council, is hosting a Rally for Peace and Justice in Huntsville, Alabama. Jorgensen has also vowed that on her first day as president, she would immediately start the process of bringing American troops home, as quickly as possible.

In Iowa, whose official motto is, “Our Liberties We Prize and Our Rights We Will Maintain,” Libertarians are especially thrilled to have their vice-presidential nominee, Jeremy “Spike” Cohen, join them in Des Moines. Iowa Libertarian Party (LP) Chair Mike Conner, Jr., said of Cohen, “He is a rarity these days: a candidate who not only can effectively communicate libertarian principles, but who actively seeks out and listens to people from all political ideologies to learn what impacts them.”

Cohen explained his dedication to protecting the individual rights and liberty of Americans. “Libertarianism is the most empathetic message in the political world. You own yourself and your life. You own your body. You own your labor, and the product of your labor, and your property.”
